Economic Empowerment & Household Resilience

Economic Empowerment

Program Overview

TOSOVC is dedicated to breaking cycles of poverty by strengthening household economic stability and youth livelihood opportunities across Tanzania Mainland. We implement structured economic empowerment initiatives targeting vulnerable households affected by poverty, health shocks, and social exclusion.

The Challenge

Across Tanzania, low-income households face limited access to capital, vocational skills gaps, and youth unemployment. Economic vulnerability increases exposure to child labour, gender-based violence, school dropout, and poor health outcomes.

  • Chronic poverty in marginalized communities
  • Lack of formal financial inclusion
  • Limited market access for small-scale entrepreneurs
  • Inadequate vocational skills among out-of-school youth

Strategic Objective

To enhance economic resilience among vulnerable households through livelihood strengthening, financial literacy, and youth skills development across Tanzania Mainland.

Target Populations

Youth and Young Adults
  • • Unemployed youth (18–35 years)
  • • Out-of-school adolescents
Caregivers and Households
  • • Female-headed households
  • • Caregivers of OVC and low-income families
Women Entrepreneurs
  • • Women requiring income-generating support
  • • Survivors of GBV seeking economic reintegration

Core Interventions

Financial Inclusion

Establishing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and providing financial literacy training.

Business Development

Support for entrepreneurship and the development of small household-based businesses.

Vocational Training

Market-driven vocational and life-skills training for youth and young adults.

Market Linkage

Facilitating connections between local entrepreneurs and broader economic markets.

Integration Note: We believe that economic security is the foundation of child protection. When households are stable, children are safer, healthier, and more likely to stay in school.
